DOJ Sues More States for Refusing to Turn Over Voter Rolls Required by Federal Law

At least a dozen states are violating the transparency required under federal election law.

The Department of Justice Civil Rights Division has filed lawsuits against more states for refusing to share their voter rolls in violation of federal election law. In addition to ongoing suits against California, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania, the Justice Department is now suing Delaware, Maryland, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington.

“Accurate voter rolls are the cornerstone of fair and free elections, and too many states have fallen into a pattern of noncompliance with basic voter roll maintenance,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. She added that the department would continue “proactive election integrity litigation until states comply with basic election safeguards.”

Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon of the Civil Rights Division said, “Our federal elections laws ensure every American citizen may vote freely and fairly. [W]e will not stand for this open defiance of federal civil rights laws.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Attorney General Bondi to seek God’s guidance as she managed the Department of Justice.
  • For Assistant Attorney General Dhillon to be discerning as she heads the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division.
  • For state election officials to comply with federal election laws to ensure transparency in their rolls of registered voters.
