Dr. Oz says improper enrollments may be widespread as officials review system safeguards and national spending trends.
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz stated that the Affordable Care Act (ACA) may be experiencing extensive enrollment fraud. He cited estimates that suggest millions of people may be receiving benefits they are not eligible for or may not exist in agency records—a figure significantly higher than earlier federal assessments.
Dr. Oz said, “A recent analysis of 2024 enrollment data identified 2.8 million Americans either enrolled in Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program in multiple states or simultaneously enrolled in both Medicaid/CHIP and a subsidized Affordable Care Act exchange plan.”
The CMS administrator also stated that earlier policy decisions and pandemic-era adjustments worsened vulnerabilities that are now being examined for potential fraud. He said that federal investigators are working to understand the scale of improper payments while the agency reviews broader healthcare-cost trends. He noted that overall medical spending is projected to rise much faster than inflation, placing a growing burden on households and the national economy.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Administrator Oz to be led by the Lord as he heads the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
- For federal legislators to be prudent in their deliberations over healthcare subsidies.
