Labor Department Releases September Jobs Report Delayed by Shutdown

The report came out nearly a month and a half late due to Congress not neglecting to fund the federal government.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released the September 2025 employment report, a release delayed by six weeks due to the federal government shutdown. Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 119,000 in September, showing little change since April, while the unemployment rate was at 4.4 percent.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “The September jobs report more than doubled market expectations — adding 119,000 new jobs to the American economy. … Wages for workers are continuing to rise… This strong report is more proof that President Trump’s pro-growth, America First agenda is already making great progress.”

The bureau also made revisions to the August report, dropping employment totals from a gain of 22,000 to a loss of 4,000. Adjustments were made to the July report as well, reducing the increase in jobs from 79,000 to 72,000.

The September report will be the last the Federal Reserve will receive before its final meeting of the year in December. No data will be released from October, and the November report has been pushed back to December 16th. Federal Reserve officials are uncertain about whether to cut interest rates again, considering inflation is at a full point above the 2 percent target.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For members of the Federal Reserve to seek God’s wisdom during their final meeting of the year, as they consider the various economic factors in the nation.
  • For U.S. labor statistics officials as they prepare the November report on the country’s job market.
  • For Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer to be discerning as she heads the Labor Department.
