Operation Southern Spear Targets Narcotics Trafficking

Secretary Hegseth announced the operation that has taken out drug-running vessels in the U.S. Southern Command.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth recently announced Operation Southern Spear as the U.S. continues strikes against drug trafficking boats in the Caribbean and other areas of the U.S. Southern Command. At least 20 lethal strikes have been conducted by the U.S. to destroy drug cartel vessels.

Secretary Hegseth said the operation “defends our Homeland, removes narco-terrorists from our Hemisphere, and secures our Homeland from the drugs that are killing our people.”

“The Western Hemisphere is America’s neighborhood – and we will protect it,” he stated.

Several warships have been deployed off the coast of Venezuela since August. With the arrival of the USS Gerald Ford, the United States has close to 15,000 troops in the region. Last month, Secretary Hegseth announced a new counternarcotics joint task force (JTF) under II Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF), a Marine Air-Ground Task Force made up of ground, air, and logistics troops.

Southcom Commander Admiral Alvin Holsey said, “By forming a JTF around II MEF headquarters, we enhance our ability to detect, disrupt, and dismantle illicit trafficking networks faster and at greater depth – together with our U.S. and partner-nation counterparts.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Admiral Holsey to be discerning in his command as he nears his announced retirement.
  • For Secretary Hegseth to seek God’s guidance as he heads the Pentagon.
  • For the protection of the U.S. troops who have been deployed to the Southern Command region.
