House Passes Resolution to Reopen Gov’t, President Signs

The longest U.S. government shutdown ends.

In the first vote since September 19, the House of Representatives voted Wednesday evening in favor of the continuing resolution to temporarily fund the federal government. The bill was sent to the White House shortly thereafter, and President Donald Trump signed it.

Referring to the healthcare subsidy extension the minority party has been insisting on, President Trump said at the signing, “I am calling today for insurance companies NOT to be paid. But for this massive amount of money be paid DIRECTLY to the people so they can buy their own healthcare!”

“I want the money to go directly to YOU, the PEOPLE!” the president added. “I just want to tell the American people – you should NOT forget this. When we come up to midterms and other things, don’t forget what they’ve done to the country!”

The Senate passed the resolution on Monday to end what ultimately became a 43-day government shutdown, the longest in U.S. history.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for President Trump and members of Congress as they address issues facing the nation.
  • For the Lord’s plan and purposes to be fulfilled in the United States of America.
