The judge gave the president’s administration two days to respond to the lawsuit.
District Judge April Perry declined to immediately block the deployment of National Guard troops to Chicago by President Trump’s administration. However, she ruled that the administration needed to respond to the state of Illinois’s lawsuit against the deployment within two days.
On Saturday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered 300 Illinois National Guard troops and 400 Texas National Guard troops to guard U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities around Chicago “effective immediately.”
Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul filed the lawsuit, saying federal officials had not coordinated this deployment with state officials as required by law.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for President Trump and Secretary Hegseth as they seek to restore law and order in cities experiencing increased crime.
- For Acting Director Lyons as he oversees U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
- For state and local officials to be discerning as they respond to federal law enforcement initiatives and operations.
