DOE Reallocates Solar Rooftop Funding to Puerto Rico Power Grid

Redirects $365 million from the previous administration’s program to overall grid upgrades.

The Department of Energy has redirected funding from a solar program under President Biden’s administration to improving Puerto Rico’s existing power grid.

The solar program enacted by the prior administration allocated $365 million for Puerto Rican residents to install rooftop solar systems with connected battery storage. President Trump’s administration transitioned that funding to administer it directly through the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA).

“For too long, Puerto Ricans have endured instability in their power system with outages and inflated costs,” said Energy Secretary Chris Wright. “The Department of Energy is putting the needs of Puerto Rico’s residents first and taking decisive action to restore reliability, protect essential services, and build an energy future they can depend on.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Wright to be led by the Lord as he seeks to strengthen the power grid of U.S. states and territories.
  • For President Trump and his U.S. energy advisors as they support energy development and production.
