Administration Imposes New Sanctions Against Iran Nuclear Network

State and Treasury Departments release collaborative fiscal action.

The State Department and the Treasury Department unveiled 44 new sanctions this week against individuals and entities found to be part of Iran’s network of nuclear program supporters and suppliers.

In 2018, President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the multinational Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which was signed by China, France, Germany, Iran, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the European Union to develop a plan to limit Iran’s uranium acquisition. After President Trump left the agreement, Iran reinstated its nuclear weapons program, and the United States imposed sanctions on the Middle Eastern nation in response. U.S. sanctions rendered the terms of the previous Plan of Action null and void.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said these new sanctions were imposed to continue dissuading the acquisition of “sensitive goods and technology” by Iran’s Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces.

“The Iranian regime’s support of terrorist proxies and its pursuit of nuclear weapons threatens the security of the Middle East, the United States, and our allies around the world,” Secretary Bessent stated.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Rubio and Bessent as they collaborate on the placement of sanctions against supporters and suppliers of hostile nations.
  • For officials in the Departments of State and the Treasury as they assess the efficacy of financial restrictions upon individuals and entities funding nations that support terrorism.
