FAA Extends Newark Airport Flight Limits with Relaxed Constraints

Increases the hourly flight limit from 68 to 72 at the NJ airport that serves NYC.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) extended the timeline on the hourly flight limit at New York City’s Newark Liberty International Airport last week, but loosened the restriction.

In June, the FAA imposed an hourly flight limit of 68, well below Newark’s previous hourly flight limit of more than 80 flights per hour. The recent announcement increases the airport’s hourly flight limit to 72 flights, but extends this cap through October 2026, to give the airport time to hire more air controllers and update its equipment.

“The move comes after constructive comments from the airport operator and airlines on extending the flight limits to help address congestion at Newark,” the FAA stated.

The FAA said it intends to “continue maintaining safety while alleviating flight delays due to staffing and equipment challenges, resulting in smoother travel into and out of Newark.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Administrator Bedford to seek God’s guidance as he heads the Federal Aviation Administration.
  • For Transportation Secretary Duffy as he oversees the effort to increase the number of air traffic controllers in the U.S.
