The righteous is established forever. – Proverbs 10:25
People who have been through earthquakes describe the ground moving and the feeling as if they were on a cruise ship in a storm. Solid walls buck, sending objects crashing to the floor. It may currently feel as though the United States is experiencing an unseen earthquake. When the nation faces troubling times, such as riots, vandalism, and political violence, it can feel like you are no longer walking on solid ground. Where there used to be a sense of stability, society has experienced a shaking for several years.
When uncertainty abounds, you can take comfort in the unchanging nature of Almighty God. Lyrics to a favorite hymn say, “On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand, all other ground is sinking sand.” Another hymn describes the Lord and His Word as a firm foundation. When you put your faith in Jesus, you are putting your faith in Someone who lasts for all eternity and will not be shaken. His promises are the same in difficult times as they are in peaceful times. The Lord is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
During these days of conflict and instability, God still answers prayers, forgives sins, and is with you. He still gives you strength when you are weak, accepts you in the beloved, and allows you to partake in His divine nature. The Lord still brings you from darkness to light, from death to life, and meets your needs. And He still seats you in Heavenly places, helps you prove His good will, and enables you to be productive. Nothing is impossible with God. Pray that He will use these times of shaking to turn this nation toward Christ the Solid Rock.
