He says the ongoing trade “weakens” negotiations and bargaining power.
President Donald Trump recently urged NATO members to stop buying oil from Russia. The president called their continued trade with Russia “shocking” and warned that it “greatly weakens your negotiating position and bargaining power over Russia,” referencing Russia’s ongoing attacks on Ukraine and NATO’s role in those negotiations.
The president’s post on social media came one day after NATO launched its new military operation Easter Sentry. The military initiative to bolster NATO’s eastern nations is in response to Russian drones’ invasion of Polish airspace last week. While the 19 drones did not launch any strikes, the Polish government shot down three of them to deter further incursions. Russia has reportedly violated Polish airspace multiple times since invading Ukraine in 2022.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for President Trump as he discusses the Ukraine war with Prime Minister Starmer during his visit to the United Kingdom.
- For the president and leaders of other NATO nations as they assess leverage to get Russia to agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine.
