Sean Curran

Director, U.S. Secret Service

Sean Michael Curran was born in 1976 in New Jersey. He earned an undergraduate degree from Stockton University and his master’s from Seton Hall University.

Curran joined the Secret Service in 2001. He later joined the dignitary protection division and worked on President Obama’s detail. He became the deputy special agent in charge of the Presidential Protective Detail in December 2024. He was in charge of President Donald Trump’s security detail for four years and jumped to cover him on the stage during the Butler, Pennsylvania, assassination attempt.

Curran was nominated by President Donald Trump to be Director of the U.S. Secret Service in January 2025. The position does not require confirmation by the Senate.

In the News…

U.S. Secret Service Director Sean Curran issued a decree to agency personnel after an agent cheered the assassination of Charlie Kirk. The agent was immediately placed on administrative leave.

“I’m writing to remind all employees that we swear an oath to those we protect to conduct ourselves with the highest standards of conduct on and off duty,“ Director Curran stated. “When our actions draw public attention for the wrong reasons, we fall short of that duty and compromise the trust essential to fulfill our mission.“

The USSS director continued, “Let me be clear, politically motivated attacks in our nation are increasing—seemingly every day. The men and women of the Secret Service must be focused on being the solution, not adding to the problem. We must operate every day without bias towards political affiliation. We owe it to ourselves and those we are sworn to protect.“

“Any distractions, otherwise, will not be tolerated,” Director Curran concluded.
