A Dozen Senators Urge President to Undo Diesel Deal with Russia

They say it will offer “limited to no relief“ to Americans and counters recently authorized sanctions against Russia.

A bipartisan group of Senators wrote a letter to President Donald Trump calling on him to undo the diesel agreement with Russia. Senators Alan Armstrong of Oklahoma, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, Susan Collins of Maine, Chris Coons of Delaware, John Cornyn of Texas, Dick Durbin of Illinois, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Jack Reed of Rhode Island, Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, Thom Tillis of North Carolina, and Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island said the deal would “not achieve just ends“ and would offer “limited to no relief to Americans.”

The letter stated, “These authorities require you to apply economic pressure on Russia and the chief enablers of its war, in particular China, and thereby enhance your negotiating position to bring a swift end to this ruinous conflict.“

The legislators wrote, “Putin is a tyrant. Withdraw from this agreement, rescind General License No. 135, and execute the authorities provided under the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026.”

The senators urged the president to “maintain our legacy – and the duty America holds – as leader of the free world.”

President Trump, in announcing the waiver allowing Russia to sell diesel fuel internationally, cited the need to support U.S. farmers and truckers who have suffered under the price increases.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For federal legislators as they advocate for previously approved legislation sanctioning Russia.
  • For wisdom for the president and his advisors as they seek to increase the affordability of fuel in the U.S.
