President Donald Trump announced over the weekend that Russia and Ukraine both agreed to a ceasefire on targeting energy infrastructure. President Trump has repeatedly encouraged both nations in recent months to stop attacking each other’s energy infrastructure.
“Ukraine is ready to refrain from striking Russian energy infrastructure–and we count on the same readiness from Russia,” President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Sunday. The Ukrainian president reported on Monday that Russia struck a power plant, a gas production facility, and a civilian gas station not long after President Trump’s energy ceasefire announcement.
President Trump had urged Ukraine to hold elections, which were suspended by President Zelensky since the war, after the Ukrainian president expressed disagreement with the U.S. easing restrictions on Russia’s sale of diesel fuel.
