Elon Musk, Palmer Luckey, and Newt Gingrich will work alongside Undersecretary Emil Michael to identify the future of warfare.
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, Anduril co-founder Palmer Luckey, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich will co-lead a new Pentagon project called Project Meridian, under the guidance of Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emil Michael.
Project Meridian will study the next generation of warfare and identify solutions to potential future conflicts. The leaders will examine how new world technological advances such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and biotechnology could be weaponized, as well as strategies to defend against such attacks.
Secretary Hegseth said the new project “is futuristic on purpose. We should have the humility to recognize that the best forecasters of future conflict do not solely reside inside the Pentagon. There are obvious biases and risks to asking ourselves to both ask the questions and answer them.”
The first project meeting was held immediately after Secretary Hegseth’s announcement.
