The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency released its 2026 Election Infrastructure Security Plan on Thursday. The agency laid out potential threats to November’s midterm elections and services it can provide to election officials to ensure election security.
CISA stated, “Election infrastructure requires steadfast security and resilience. It is a vital national interest and one of the Department of Homeland Security’s highest priorities to support the greater national security landscape. The American people’s confidence that their vote will be counted as cast is essential, and securing election infrastructure requires year-round diligence and close coordination between state, local, and federal partners.“
The agency continued that the “goal is to ensure the American people can trust voting systems and know that physical safety measures will be in place when they go to their assigned polling locations to cast their votes. CISA is well-prepared to support the states for any election—whether local, regional, or federal. Election security is not a partisan issue. Election security is national security.“
