Vice President of the United States
James David Vance was born in August 1984 in Middletown, Ohio. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Iraq War as a combat correspondent with the 2nd Marine Air Wing. Following military service, he earned an undergraduate degree in political science and philosophy from Ohio State University. He received his Juris Doctor from Yale Law School. He entered the private practice of law.
Vance moved to San Francisco to work in the tech industry, becoming a principal in a venture capital group. He later returned to Ohio and joined an investment firm. He became a contributor to CNN. After two years, he formed his own capital financial company.
He was elected to the U.S. Senate and assumed office in January 2023. President Trump chose Senator Vance as his vice presidential running mate in the summer of 2024. President Trump and Vice President Vance won the popular vote as well as the Electoral College in the presidential election in November. They were sworn into office in January 2025.
Vance is married to Usha, and they have four children. He is a Catholic.

Vice President JD Vance spoke about the most recent efforts of the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, in which the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is removing 760,000 ineligible people from Obamacare.
The vice president explained, “We’re actually making sure that the people receiving Obamacare subsidies are actually entitled to receive them. Amazingly, we weren’t doing that before.”
“In one case, we found a fraud ring that had 40 brokerage agents who had funneled 50,000 people into the Obamacare system fraudulently. Now, some of those people were probably legitimate,” Vice President Vance continued. “Most of those people were not eligible. Either they didn’t meet the citizenship or the income requirements. Many of those people quite literally didn’t even exist.”
He concluded, “We had a system in this country that rewarded brokers, that made people rich for enrolling fake people in programs that are meant to ensure that our fellow citizens have healthcare. This was a scandal.”
