Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Critical Minerals and Energy Innovation (CMEI) announced four projects to be funded through the Mine of the Future program. The selected projects were coordinated by: Innovative Wireless Technologies, Inc., the University of Arizona, and curators of the University of Missouri and Southern Methodist University.
Each project will focus on different mining technological advancements and research, including building underground testbeds for national use and synthetic mines for drilling and testing new tools and technological advancements. The department intends to increase accessibility to sites and advance new and innovative technology to strengthen the critical mineral supply chain.
“Investing in moving cutting-edge mining technologies out of the lab and into the field will help unleash America’s vast mineral resources,” Energy Secretary Chris Wright said. “President Trump is committed to rebuilding America’s mining industry, reducing our dependence on foreign adversaries, and securing the critical minerals that are foundational to our energy, manufacturing, and national security.”
