The mint director said the coin designs “commemorate America’s Semiquincentennial through its depiction of America’s past, present and future.”
The U.S. Mint announced the designs of the nation’s semiquincentennial $1 coin this month. The coin will become available this fall.
“The designs on this coin commemorate America’s Semiquincentennial through its depiction of America’s past, present and future,” said Mint Director Paul Hollis. “I am honored to be a part of this historic milestone in our Nation’s coinage and its history.”
The front of the coin will feature President Donald Trump’s portrait with the text “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “1776~2026” inscribed. The back will hold the Presidential Seal, with an eagle holding an olive branch and a bundle of arrows. A shield on the eagle’s breast will bear the inscription “250” to honor the Semiquincentennial of the United States. The eagle will also have a banner inscribed “E PLURIBUS UNUM” in its beak. The inscriptions on the rear include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR.”
The U.S. Mint has also released other semiquincentennial designs for various coins. While the Mint has discontinued circulation of the penny, a “1776-2026“ penny is being produced as a collectible.
