The treasury secretary called it Iran’s “economic D-Day,” referencing the historic World War II campaign.
The Departments of State, Treasury, Justice, and Defense are collaborating on “Operation Economic Outcast,“ launched by the United States this week against the Islamic Republic of Iran and its enablers. The economic campaign is being conducted against multiple entities, individuals, and vessels supporting or enabling the Iranian regime’s activities, including attacks against U.S. forces and allies in the Middle East, illicit weapons procurement, cyber intrusions into American infrastructure, and the movement of energy products that fund global terrorism.
“In the Second World War, D-Day marked the historic beginning of a campaign with our allies to target and drive the enemy from its positions, including those in third countries,“ Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent. “In that same spirit, we are launching an economic onslaught against Iran’s financial connections around the globe.“
The department explained, “Operation Economic Outcast will sever the economic lifelines that sustain the Iranian regime and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). These actions today mark the beginning of a sustained and systematic campaign to close every financial resource that supports the leading state sponsor of terror.“
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretaries Rubio, Bessent, and Hegseth, and Attorney General Blanche as they coordinate the functions of Operation Economic Outcast.
- For U.S. officials as they seek to ensure the Islamic Republic cannot obtain a nuclear weapon or continue to disrupt Middle Eastern commerce and trade.
