President Donald Trump’s administration is seeking to recruit veterans who have driven large military vehicles to become tractor-trailer drivers. The “Freedom Haulers” initiative is a joint effort between the Departments of Transportation and Labor to replace thousands of illegal alien drivers whose commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) were revoked in the past year.

The Transportation Department has increased its enforcement of English language requirements for CDL holders. Federal officials have also been investigating trucking schools to ensure they are complying with safety and residency standards for their students.

The department reported, after auditing all the states, that numerous noncitizens had been issued CDLs without verification of their citizenship status or continued to drive semis after their work permits had expired.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President Trump as he seeks to improve big rig safety with qualified veteran drivers.
  • For Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and acting Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling as they coordinate the “Freedom Hauler” initiative.
  • For members of the Senate as they address legislative issues ahead of the August recess.
