The U.S. State Department announced that the Republic of Serbia has officially joined the Artemis Accords, which is an agreement for the peaceful exploration and use of space. NASA Deputy Administrator Matthew Anderson and State Department Assistant Secretary for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs Wesley Brooks witnessed Serbia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić’s signing of the accords last week at NASA headquarters in Washington, D.C.
State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said, “This achievement exemplifies the new, forward-looking era in U.S.-Serbia relations, and our shared commitment to building a safer, more prosperous future together.”
The department highlighted, “The United States and seven other countries established the Artemis Accords in 2020 during President Trump’s first term, to serve as a set of practical principles to guide responsible space exploration. Serbia joins the United States and 67 other nations in affirming the Accords’ principles for sustainable civil space activity.”
