Secretary Collins says veterans and survivors should not “face unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles.”
The Department of Veterans Affairs announced a proposal to reduce the amount of paperwork needed to apply for VA benefits. The proposal would ease the administrative burden by simplifying instructions and streamlining documents. These adjustments would apply to disability compensation benefits, Dependency and Indemnity Compensation, survivor’s pension, and accrued benefits.
“No Veteran or surviving family member should face unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles when seeking the benefits they’ve earned,” said VA Secretary Doug Collins. “These proposals reflect our commitment to putting Veterans and their families first — reducing paperwork, saving time, and making the application process as straightforward as possible.”
The VA intends to introduce these updated forms by December 2026.
