House Advances Funding and Election Integrity Rules

Some senators have floated delaying or canceling the August recess.

Members of the House of Representatives passed a rule on Tuesday that will set up floor debate and votes to advance the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), the framework for a budget reconciliation package, and a continuing resolution to fund the federal government through December 4. The legislative majority has also proposed merging the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act with the NDAA.

The SAVE America Act would require proof of citizenship to register to vote and then the verification of identity to cast a ballot.

Some members of the Senate have proposed delaying or canceling the August recess until key legislation has been passed. “After this week, the House and Senate won’t be in session at the same time again until September 14 if we keep the current schedule,” Senator Rick Scott of Florida stated. “That’s insane. We still need to pass the SAVE America Act” and prevent a government shutdown in October.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For members of the House as they seek to pass legislation to increase election security and fund the government.
  • For senators as they consider the short window before the scheduled recess next month.
  • For Speaker Johnson and Majority Leader Thune as they preside over their respective houses of Congress.
