The Lord your God is in our midst, a mighty one who will save. – Zephaniah 3:17
Sometimes different things occur in the middle of other circumstances that are taking place. For example, in the midst of an outdoor meeting, a huge gust of wind blew the signs down. Or a friend might ask during a particularly overwhelming season, “In the midst of all this confusion, how can you stay so calm?” According to Merriam-Webster, “midst” is the interior or central part of a thing or a group. Today’s verse reminds you that God is in your midst. The question is whether you allow Him to truly be at the center… of your life, your thoughts, and your activities.
Take a moment to meditate on the fact that God is nearby. If you are a follower of Christ, He is with you right now, at this very moment. His Spirit dwells within you, fellowshipping with your spirit. He has positioned Himself in the center. Do you embrace Him and give Him His rightful place? The verse continues, “He will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.” What an incredible series of emotions God is showing toward you right now… in your midst. Consider that! He so loves being in relationship with you. Allow your heart and mind to absorb this truth.
Join the Lord in rejoicing with gladness, allow Him to quiet your spirit by knowing how much He loves you, then sing a song of praise. Pray for members of the government to find or deepen this relationship with the Lord for themselves. Ask God to accomplish His purpose in and through the nation’s governing officials.
