President Trump encouraged Governor McMaster to make the appointment.
Darline Graham Nordone, sister of the late U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, has been appointed by South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster to serve the remainder of her brother’s term in the Senate. Senator Graham passed away on Saturday from an aortic dissection.
President Trump had encouraged Governor McMaster to make the appointment, stating, “This would be a fabulous tribute to Lindsey, who loved her dearly!”
“It is such an honor. Lindsey has always been there for me, and now, I will be there for him,” Ms. Nordone said on Monday evening. “As I think everyone would agree, Lindsey worked harder than anyone. He worked nonstop to make our state, country, and world better.”
“I promise to work hard over the next several months to support the president and carry forward the efforts of my brother on behalf of the citizens of South Carolina and the United States,” she continued. “I think this is what Lindsey would have wanted, and I plan to honor him in this way.”
Nordone is to be sworn in on Tuesday afternoon.
Since Senator Graham had won the recent primary for his reelection bid, under state law, South Carolina will hold a lightning primary to choose a successor candidate for the November midterm election.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the Lord to be with Senator Nordone as she fills her brother’s seat in the Senate for the remainder of this year.
- For God’s comfort for her and the late senator’s family as they grieve his loss.
- For the voters of South Carolina as they mourn the loss of their senator and choose his party’s candidate for November.
