Repent, therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord. – Acts 3:19-20
If someone asked which way you are facing, would you answer with a point on the compass? Perhaps you are more of a creative soul and would respond in relation to an observable reference point. On this day honoring Fathers, many are facing the past. Some may be reclaiming cherished memories while others wish they could undo heartbreaking circumstances. In either case, the only thing you can change about the past is your orientation to it!
Repentance in the Bible is a similar concept. It means to turn, go in a different direction, and change how you orient your life. This is a pivot, a spin in the present, not moving backward in time. Repentance means to turn toward the Lord after being away from Him, to acknowledge the reality of your actions or attitudes, and how far they are from His righteousness.
Though repentance may sound daunting, those willing to draw near to the Father of all creation make a wonderful discovery. Unlike earthly fathers who have limited resources, your Heavenly Father has provided a completely sufficient and sovereign solution to your sin through His Son. Repentance and forgiveness are eternally linked. The repentant sinner finds God’s forgiveness, and His forgiveness ushers one towards full repentance.
A refreshing new season is possible, for both you and this nation. It starts with repentance, turning toward God, and trusting Him for forgiveness and restoration. Make a turn in your life and pray for decision-makers in the United States to do the same, to bring health and healing to the land.

20 And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. 21 And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ 22 But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. 23 And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. 24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to celebrate.
