The congresswoman from Florida had not alerted congressional leadership of her absence.
Representative Frederica Wilson of Florida missed approximately 50 votes in the House of Representatives before issuing a statement regarding a health procedure that sidelined her participation in legislative business in Washington. During her absence, which began April 17, her staff reposted a photo from an event last fall which raised speculation about the congresswoman’s health.
“Following left eye surgery, my priority has been ensuring a full and responsible recovery,” Representative Wilson stated. “Although I am currently unable to fly under my doctors’ orders, my work has not stopped for a single day. While recovering in the district, I have continued carrying out my official duties, meeting with leaders, local organizations, city and county officials, and constituents.”
“Whether in Washington or in the district, the work never stops for me,” she continued. “I look forward to returning soon and continuing to deliver for the people of Florida’s 24th Congressional District with the same dedication, strength, and commitment they deserve.“
The 83-year-old congresswoman, who has served in Congress since 2011, is running for reelection.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Representative Wilson’s full recovery from eye surgery.
- For her medical team to accurately assess her health and ability to serve.
- For members of the House and Senate to be transparent regarding their health issues and capacity to represent their constituents.
