DHS Secretary said FEMA needs to get back to its original mission.
President Donald Trump’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Review Council has released its final report. The council recommended an administrative overhaul, including staff cuts, and shifting disaster response and spending to the states. Rather than using inflation as a marker to determine whether federal assistance is needed, a per-capita calculation was suggested.
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin said, “FEMA is not the first responder, but rather a force multiplier standing shoulder to shoulder with states, tribes, and local governments to ensure rapid and effective recovery. We are driving ahead, transforming FEMA into a streamlined, mission-focused agency that delivers results. Our readiness is stronger than ever, and we are prepared to meet any challenge that comes our way.”
The council members were disaster response experts and senior leaders, including Secretary Mullin and Defense Secretary Hegseth. The report was to inform the president on FEMA’s operational abilities and readiness to address disaster ‘impartially.’
Secretary Mullin also said, “We need to refocus FEMA to get it back on what its mission originally was.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for President Trump as he evaluates the suggestions from the FEMA review council.
- For Secretary Mullin to be led by the Lord as he heads DHS and its many agencies and offices.
- For Acting Administrator Robert Fenton as he oversees FEMA.
