The restructuring plan for the USDA Forest Service is underway.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Forest Service announced that its headquarters will be moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. This move coincides with the decision to make widespread restructuring changes to the agency.
The Forest Service will focus on shifting authority closer to the field of operations by organizing state-level accountability. This will include a transition to shared service centers and unified national research, and a focus on simplifying and localizing a chain of command. Fifteen state directors will be assigned to locations across the country, overseeing one or more states each. Each state office will include a small support team to handle various legislative affairs, communications, and coordination.
“Establishing a western headquarters in Salt Lake City and streamlining how the Forest Service is organized will position the Chief and operation leaders closer to the landscapes we manage and the people who depend on them,“ said USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins. “This includes supporting our timber growers across the country, including those in the Southeast by prioritizing a regional office and promoting policies that boost timber production, lowering costs for consumers.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For discernment for Secretary Rollins as she supervises the Forest Service’s updates and transitions.
- For Chief Tom Schultz and Forest Service officials as shifts are made in agency roles and authority.
