Applicants of all ages are invited to participate in the submission of visually inspiring pieces of transportation-forward architecture.
Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Sean Duffy announced the launch of the “Beautifying Transportation Infrastructure Challenge.” This competition will allow individuals of all ages and experience levels to participate in the submission of infrastructure designs that will “capture the spirit and greatness of America.” Participants can submit designs for a wide range of architecture, including bridges, transit hubs, and rural transportation-related features.
The department is offering $650,000 in prize money across three categories: Professional Tier (Established Designers) with a $500,000 total pool, Public Tier (Independent Artists & Citizens) with a $100,000 total pool, and Student Tier (Grades 6–12) with a $50,000 total pool. The challenge website describes the focus as being on “visionary proposals,” asking applicants to submit “conceptual renderings that reimagine essential transportation infrastructure.”
“This challenge is an opportunity for innovators and creatives to become a part of America’s history by sharing a design that could be the next great airport or bridge that moves Americans for generations,” said Secretary Duffy.
