FBI Investigates Old Dominion University Shooting as Act of Terrorism

The director says the Joint Terrorism Task Force is coordinating with local authorities.

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel stated that the shooting at Old Dominion University is being investigated as a terrorist attack. The shooter, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Sierra Leone who had served in the Virginia National Guard, had been released from prison after being convicted in 2016 for providing support to ISIS. He shot and killed an ROTC instructor and wounded two others before being taken down by ROTC students.

“The FBI is now investigating the shooting as an act of terrorism,” Director Patel stated. “Our Joint Terrorism Task Force is fully engaged, embedded with local authorities, and providing all resources necessary in the investigation.”

The FBI director announced the perpetrator was dead,  “thanks to a group of brave students who stepped in and subdued him.”

Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger stated she was monitoring the situation closely. She said, “I encourage students, faculty, and community members to continue following guidance issued by local law enforcement.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Director Patel and FBI agents as they collaborate with local authorities and university officials.
  • For wisdom for U.S. federal investigators as they seek to locate and prevent terrorism.
