In the News…

U.S. Senator James Langford of Oklahoma is introducing the Stop Unemployment Fraud Act to reform the federal-state Unemployment Insurance program after rampant fraud was discovered. The bill seeks to ensure that recipients are eligible, verifying their identities and requiring states to cross-check beneficiaries through the Data Integrity Hub.

“Making the government more efficient isn’t a partisan issue, it’s an American issue,” Senator Langford stated. “During COVID, fraudsters exploited loopholes in the unemployment system and stole billions while taxpayers were left with the bill.”

It is estimated that $100-135 billion in taxpayer-funded unemployment benefits were obtained fraudulently since the pandemic.

The senator continued, “This legislation strengthens verification, improves coordination between states, and ensures benefits go to the Americans who actually qualify, not criminals exploiting the system.”
