Former DHS Secretary Testifies the Federal Government Funded Immigration Child Trafficking

Sponsors were said to have been trafficking and abusing migrant children with federal government knowledge.

Before being removed from the position by President Trump last week, former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee under oath that sponsors for thousands of unaccompanied migrant children were released to improperly vetted sponsors under the previous presidential administration.

The former secretary told the Senate panel that the sponsors had addresses apparently coordinated to various nonresidential locations, such as shopping malls and movie theaters. She also stated that federal officials had neglected to enroll over 233,000 migrant children in immigration proceedings.

Then-Secretary Noem stated, “We not only had children that were in this country as a part of a program, the government was paying individuals that were knowingly trafficking them and abusing them. That has stopped. We have gone through and found these children, and put them back with their families, when we have had the opportunity to do so, and with loved ones who will care for them.”

Ms. Noem concluded that the Department of Homeland Security has found 145,000 so far of the 233,000 who have been missing. She said that the department “will continue to work to ensure these individuals and these children that were abused by the trafficking over the border, have the opportunity to be brought back to their families and to their loved ones going forward.”
