Up to $5 million offered for information on two fugitives charged with drug trafficking and related offenses
The State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs announced reward offers of up to $5 million each under the Narcotics Rewards Program (NRP) for information leading to the arrest or conviction of René Arzate-García, also known as “La Rana,” and Alfonso Arzate-García, also known as “Aquiles.” The rewards are being offered in coordination with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) San Diego Division and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California. The brothers are alleged to have overseen operations in the Tijuana region for the Sinaloa Cartel and have been charged in the U.S. with drug trafficking offenses since 2014.
According to federal authorities, René Arzate-García was recently named in a superseding indictment charging narcoterrorism, continuing criminal enterprise, drug trafficking conspiracy, and money laundering. Both men were designated in 2023 by the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control under Executive Order 14059 related to global illicit drug trafficking. The reward announcement is part of ongoing interagency efforts to pursue individuals accused of leading transnational criminal organizations.
