The temporary halt comes as the investigation into fraudulent dispersion of funding continues.
Vice President JD Vance and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Mehmet Oz announced that Medicaid reimbursements would be paused to the state of Minnesota after an audit was made of the state’s disbursements for low-income residents. The Department of Homeland Security reported that Minnesota had paid out Medicaid funds to services including day care, autism therapy, and housing aid without safeguarding funds from fraudulent activity.
The vice president stated, “We have decided to temporarily halt certain amounts of Medicaid funding that are going to the state of Minnesota in order to ensure that the state of Minnesota takes its obligation seriously to be good stewards of the American people’s tax money.”
“This is not a problem with the people of Minnesota. It’s a problem with the leadership of Minnesota and other states who do not take Medicaid preservation seriously,” Administrator Oz said. “Any delay in services is going to be, should be laid at the seat of Governor Walz. I believe he will take this seriously.”
President Trump announced Vice President Vance as the head of a national “war on fraud“ during his State of the Union speech earlier this week. The administration is also auditing California, Colorado, and New York.
