The State Department also designated Iran as a State Sponsor of Wrongful Detention.
The United States Embassy in Jerusalem alerted employees that they should leave Israel immediately. Ambassador Mike Huckabee directed staff via email on Friday that those wishing to depart “should do so TODAY.”
“There is no need to panic,” Ambassador Huckabee stated, “but for those desiring to leave, it’s important to make plans to depart sooner rather than later.”
The State Department also designated Iran as a State Sponsor of Wrongful Detention on Friday. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated, “The Iranian regime must stop taking hostages and release all Americans unjustly detained in Iran, steps that could end this designation and associated actions. We encourage it to do so. No American should travel to Iran for any reason. We reiterate our call for Americans who are currently in Iran to leave immediately.“
Secretary Rubio will head to Israel on Monday.
