Interior Department Expedites Permitting Process to Build Infrastrucure

Secretary Burgum says more than $1.5 trillion in capital projects “are being held up by permitting.”

The Department of the Interior hosted a signing of memorandums of understanding by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and Idaho Governor Brad Little with Permitting Council Executive Director Emily Domenench last week. The federal agency has advocated for the “FAST-41 process,” which syncs state and federal permitting to accelerate infrastructure projects.

“We have $1.5 trillion or higher amount of capital projects that are being held up by permitting,” Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said. “If we can release those projects, whether that’s horizontal infrastructure that helps lower the price of energy, pipelines, transmission lines, water infrastructure, ports, highways, surface transportation, all of those things that lower the cost of transportation, lower the cost of delivery, lower the cost, everyday life gets better and cheaper.”

Secretary Burgum said, “The important things for Americans that depend on this infrastructure, because it helps increase safety, lower costs, and improve their quality of life, is that we can build great things in America, build them safely, build them smartly, and build them quickly without all this red tape increasing the cost for taxpayers and slowing down the gains that you get when this essential infrastructure is built.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Burgum to receive God’s guidance as he heads the Interior Department.
  • For Director Domenench as she advocates for the expedited permitting for state infrastructure projects.
  • For discernment for state governors and officials as they sign on to sync permitting with federal agencies.
