Four states have challenged the termination of CDC funding.
U.S. District Judge Manish Shah issued a 14-day order preventing President Trump’s administration from rescinding approximately $600 million in public health grants allocated to Illinois, California, Colorado, and Minnesota. The judge ruled that the states demonstrated potential irreparable harm if the funding were withdrawn while litigation proceeds.
The grants, administered through the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention, support disease tracking and public health initiatives. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHS) has stated that the grants no longer align with updated agency priorities. The four states filed suit claiming that the funding termination violates constitutional and statutory provisions governing federal appropriations.
