Secretary Hegseth Speaks at National Religious Broadcasters Conference

He said, “I commit to speak truth, to praise God, to reclaim Christ, not because we’re perfect, but because He redeems us.”

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth spoke at the National Religious Broadcasters annual conference in Nashville, Tennessee, this week. As the nation celebrates its 250th anniversary this year, the defense secretary addressed the importance of faith in American history and governance, and how God is the Source of all power.

Secretary Hegseth described, “Thinkers like John Locke, whose philosophy profoundly influenced our founders, argued that rights, liberty, and property are not grants from a king or government, but rather gifts from a creator.”

He highlighted how these gifts are “endowed, not enshrined, gifted, never legislated. This idea of a higher law, God’s law, the perfect law, a virtuous order that stands above the edicts of temporary rulers, is a direct inheritance from our religious tradition.”

The defense secretary said that faith and freedom are “foundational to a strong citizenry, a strong nation, and a strong military.”

“The Christian belief that every person is created in the image of God established a new vision of humanity,” he explained. “From this core principle come liberty and individual rights. The influence of Christianity on our nation’s founding was not merely philosophical; it was institutional.”

Secretary Hegseth also cited the monthly prayer services that are now held at the Pentagon and stated,  “We’ve made the chaplain corps great again.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Hegseth as he seeks to protect and promote religious liberty and faith in the military.
  • For wisdom for the defense secretary and Pentagon officials as they highlight constitutional rights, such as the freedom of religion, for military personnel and the public.
