DHS Ends Temporary Protected Status for Yemen

Yemenis must now return to their country, now that protections have been revoked.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently revoked Yemen’s Temporary Protected Status (TPS) after completing a review of conditions in the country. Yemen was originally provided with the protected status more than ten years ago. Approximately 2,810 current TPS holders and an additional 425 with pending applications will have 60 days to voluntarily depart the U.S.

Secretary Kristi Noem stated, “Allowing TPS Yemen beneficiaries to remain temporarily in the United States is contrary to our national interest. We are prioritizing our national security interests and putting America first.”

The Homeland Security Department is reviewing the TPS status of multiple countries ahead of the current TPS expiration dates. A country may receive TPS under the following conditions: ongoing armed conflict, environmental disaster, or an epidemic, and other extraordinary and temporary conditions.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Noem as she oversees the evaluation of each country’s TPS status.
  • For DHS officials as they conduct the reviews of the native countries of TPS applicants.
  • For the impacted Yemenis as they orchestrate their departure from the U.S.
