The U.S. military shot down an Iranian drone that approached an American aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea.
Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, and U.S. Navy Admiral Brad Cooper, Commander of the U.S. Central Command, participated in talks with Iranian representatives in Oman on Friday. The discussions were focused on Tehran’s continued pursuit of nuclear weapons.
U.S. Central Command shared that an Iranian drone that approached the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln in the Arabian Sea was shot down by a U.S. Navy fighter jet earlier this week.
Central Command spokesman Captain Tim Hawkins stated the drone had “unclear intent” and “aggressively approached” the USS Abraham Lincoln, where it “continued to fly toward the ship despite de-escalatory measures taken by U.S. forces operating in international waters.”
Further exacerbating the situation, the shootdown of the drone happened within hours of another incident that happened between a U.S. merchant vessel and Iranian forces, in which the Iranian forces threatened to board and seize the vessel.
Tensions have continued to escalate between the U.S. and Iran amid protests against the Iranian regime. President Trump had pledged to support Iranians as their government engaged in a brutal crackdown against them. Iran suspended the mass executions it had been scheduled after the talks with the U.S. were scheduled. Large numbers of protestors continue to be arrested and detained by the Iranian government.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for President Trump as he determines the next moves with Iran.
- For the safety of those serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.
- For the protestors in Iran as they deal with the threat of arrest and execution.
