Thom Tillis
U.S. Senator from North Carolina
Thomas Roland Tillis was born in August 1960 in Jacksonville, Florida. He attended Chattanooga State Community College before earning a degree in technology management from the University of Maryland, University College. He worked for a computer company in Boston and later for Price Waterhouse before moving to North Carolina, where he began his political career.
He was a Cornelius, North Carolina, town commissioner before he was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives. For a time, Tillis served as Speaker. He was elected to the United States Senate and assumed office in January 2015.
Tillis is married to Susan, and they have two children. He is a Catholic.

U.S. Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina reiterated his opposition of the confirmation of the next Federal Reserve chair now that President Trump named his nominee. The senator insists that the Justice Department criminal investigation into current Chair Jerome Powell be concluded before he will offer support.
“My position has not changed,” Senator Tillis stated. “I will oppose the confirmation of any Federal Reserve nominee, including for the position of Chairman, until the DOJ’s inquiry into Chairman Powell is fully and transparently resolved.”
Senator Tillis explained, “Kevin Warsh is a qualified nominee with a deep understanding of monetary policy. However, the Department of Justice continues to pursue a criminal investigation into Chairman Jerome Powell based on committee testimony that no reasonable person could construe as possessing criminal intent.“
He added, “Protecting the independence of the Federal Reserve from political interference or legal intimidation is non-negotiable.”
