The Justice Department announced that charges have been brought against a man who rushed at Representative Ilhan Omar during a townhall event in Minnesota earlier this week and sprayed her with apple cider vinegar from a syringe.
Prosecutors said the suspect “forcibly assaulted, opposed, impeded, intimidated, and interfered” with the congresswoman as she was speaking.
The incident occurred after increased scrutiny of Representative Omar’s significant rise in net worth after becoming a member of Congress. Her financial disclosures have become the focus of an investigation since she rose from having no assets to the ranks of the wealthiest members in the House.
