Energy Department Commits $2.7 Billion to Domestic Nuclear Fuel Supply

The investment is focused on uranium enrichment and long-term reactor needs.

The Department of Energy (DOE) announced $2.7 billion in planned investments over the next decade to expand domestic uranium enrichment capacity. The funding will support production of low-enriched uranium and high-assay low-enriched uranium needed for existing nuclear reactors and future advanced designs, with awards tied to milestone-based performance requirements.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright said that the “awards show that this Administration is committed to restoring a secure domestic nuclear fuel supply chain capable of producing the nuclear fuels needed to power the reactors of today and the advanced reactors of tomorrow.”

The department awarded enrichment task orders to three companies and additional funding for advanced enrichment technology research. Officials said the initiative is intended to strengthen energy security, reduce reliance on foreign fuel sources, and maintain a stable supply for the nation’s nuclear power infrastructure.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For discernment for Secretary Wright as he oversees the investment in long-term energy projects.
  • For U.S. energy officials to be prudent as they evaluate applications for large-scale federal funding and contracting.
  • For governing officials at the federal and state levels as they collaborate on nuclear energy development and operations.
