Federal agencies seek input on interagency coordination affecting Native students.
The Department of Education announced a February 10, 2026, consultation in Washington, D.C., inviting Tribal leaders to provide input on Indian Education Partnership Interagency Agreements involving the Departments of Education, Interior, and Labor. The Office of Indian Education will moderate the consultation, which is intended to gather perspectives from Tribal governments as the agencies implement coordinated responsibilities for Native-serving education and workforce programs.
“The Department of the Interior is committed to delivering education programs that produce results for Native students,” said Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Indian Affairs Billy Kirkland. “Consultation strengthens coordination and helps shape decisions affecting Native education. We are excited to work with tribes to improve program delivery, enforce accountability, and drive measurable outcomes for Native students.”
“The Department of Labor and the Employment and Training Administration are committed to genuine dialogue with Tribal leaders as we streamline grant-making to Tribes and free education and career preparation from the excessive bureaucracy of the past, allowing for true Tribal sovereignty,” said Assistant Secretary of Labor for Employment and Training Henry Mack.
