Education Department Initiates a Nationwide Workforce Development Competition

The initiative encourages states to build integrated Talent Marketplaces.

The U.S. Department of Education recently announced the launch of the Connecting Talent to Opportunity Challenge, a nationwide effort to help states strengthen workforce connections through the development of integrated Talent Marketplaces. Governors are invited to work with education and workforce partners to create or expand systems that link skills, credentials, and job opportunities through shared digital tools.

“Talent Marketplaces give learners, earners, and employers a clearer way to validate skills, opening doors to stackable credentials and stronger recognition of prior learning and work experience,” said Acting Assistant Secretary for the Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education Nick Moore. “As we expand these systems, we open more pathways into good jobs, support broader participation in the workforce, and help strengthen our Nation’s economy.”

Participating states may receive technical assistance and compete for a share of a $15 million prize pool to support implementation.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For state and federal officials coordinating workforce development efforts across the education and labor system.
  • For Acting Assistant Secretary Moore and Department of Education staff as they administer the challenge and technical assistance.
  • For Secretary McMahon as she oversees workforce initiatives to effectively develop skills, experience, and training.
