According to his promise, we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. – 2 Peter 3:13
How are you at waiting? According to computer science research, the average person will give a video about 2 seconds to load, 25 percent abandon the process at five seconds, and 50 percent quit at 10 seconds!
In the New Testament, the apostle Peter’s behavior is often characterized as impulsive—he did not like to wait! Specifically, he did not want to wait to discover Jesus’ perspective on a situation before acting. How ironic that he would be the one, after Christ’s death, to write multiple letters encouraging believers to be patient and wait for God’s promises to come to pass!
Are you eager for this new year to get underway, for a fresh experience? Peter puts God’s timing into perspective for you. “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).
God’s plan – for the world, for the United States, and for you – is right on track. His beautiful Kingdom is on its way, and He does not want anyone to miss it. Pray for those considering Christ today to accept His invitation to come into relationship. As you pray, ask that elected and appointed officials in this nation will seek God’s wisdom, consulting Him and waiting for His guidance. A new day will come, here on Earth, and an eternal one in Heaven. Through faith in Christ Jesus, both will be worth the wait.
Today’s Verse: 2 Peter 3:13
But according to his promise, we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
23 they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”
25 The Lord is good to those who wait for him,
to the soul who seeks him.
26 It is good that one should wait quietly
for the salvation of the Lord.
