Fresh oranges, grapefruits, and mandarins to be distributed to food banks.
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) plan to purchase $30 million in fruit to be distributed to food banks and nutrition assistance programs nationwide to provide relief and support to rural communities. This purchase of oranges, grapefruit, and mandarins is being made under Section 32 of the Agriculture Act of 1935, a permanently appropriated fund that supports American producers of agricultural commodities.
“President Trump is standing with America’s farmers,“ stated Secretary Rollins. “Certain commodities are experiencing a surplus, and USDA is ensuring these crops do not go to waste and instead go to Americans in need across the country. These fresh fruits will reach those in need, boosting healthier options for Americans at food banks across the country, all while benefitting American farmers facing unfair actions from foreign competitors.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for Secretary Rollins as she oversees the allocation of nutrition assistance funding.
- For members of the USDA to be discerning in the distribution of the purchased produce.
