The review aims to determine whether the university violated certain safety and security requirements.
The Department of Education announced that it is investigating whether the University of California, Berkeley, violated the Clery Act, following a violent protest that took place on the campus last month. The act requires institutions of higher education to adhere to certain safety and security requirements on campus, a condition required to receive federal student aid.
Education Secretary Linda McMahon stated, “The Department will vigorously investigate this matter to ensure that a recipient of federal funding is not allowing its students to be at risk.”
As a part of the review, the university will have thirty days to submit required information, including copies of daily crime logs and call logs to the local police department.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for Secretary McMahon as she oversees the investigation into the potential violation of the Clery Act by UC Berkeley.
- For U.S. education officials as they seek to ensure the safety of college students on their campuses.
